The current Secretary of State is Jocelyn Benson, a Democrat. However, she is term limited and cannot seek re-election. She’s also running for 2026 Michigan Governor.
The current Secretary of State candidates are Garlin Gilchrist II (Democrat) and Anthony Forlini (Republican).
The length of a Secretary of State’s term is 4 years, and one can have up to two terms.
The Secretary of State has a few responsibilities. These include overseeing elections, managing voter access and registration, running Michigan’s driver and vehicle services, maintaining public and business records, and enforcing transparency and compliance.
